In recent years, cosmetic surgery has become increasingly popular around the world. However, when most people think about plastic surgery, they usually assume these types of procedures are only popular among women.
But this just isn’t the case…
According to Wiley Clinical Healthcare Hub, men account for 8% of all cosmetic surgeries performed in the UK and USA. The most popular cosmetic surgery procedures for men, might surprise you. A few of the most popular cosmetic procedures include: Liposuction, rhinoplasty and otoplasty. If you’re wondering, rhinoplasty refers to procedures that focus on the nose area and otoplasty procedures focus on the ears. Apparently, otoplasty is the most popular surgical procedure among men, as men account for 50% of all performed otoplasty procedures.
The statistics also reveal that specific procedures, such as tummy tucks have grown by 12% in popularity among men over the past five years, while male breast reductions have increased about 30% during that time.
Although these are some of the most types of cosmetic surgery for men, non-surgical procedures seem to be the more popular choice.
Non-surgical procedures for the win
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the top five non-surgical procedures chosen by men include botulinum toxin A, laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, chemical peels and soft tissue fillers. The popularity of these non-surgical augmentations among men has increased 72% over the last 20 years. The growth of non-surgical procedures over surgical procedures in men is attributed to the quicker recovery time and the less invasive nature of the procedures.
Given all these statistics, it seems the stigma often associated with men going through with such procedures has been steadily fading away. As society becomes more progressive in regard to its acceptance of people achieving the physical form that they desire, these types of procedures will continue to grow in popularity among both men and women.
